Kings High art takes centre stage

King’s High School in Warwick held their annual Art and DT exhibition at the end of the Summer Term displaying an impressive array of artwork. Principally a celebration of the achievements of King’s High external examination candidates, the exhibition also featured some ceramic work by younger pupils and pieces by artist in residence Beatrice Hoffman.
Visitors praised the high standard of work and variety of style on display which demonstrated the breadth of artistic talent in the school.

The artwork was judged by Tom Mitchell of the Mitchell Gallery in Warwick. Sixth formers, Ally Pullen and Emily Bainbridge received the two top awards and were presented with especially commissioned glass sculptures by renowned glass sculptor Allister Malcolm. They will now be given the chance to have work on show in the Church Street Gallery in Warwick.

The exhibition was housed in the newly refurbished Creative Arts Centre. This £3.7 million development, opened by internationally acclaimed soprano Catherine Bott in December 2009, is the most recent addition to King’s High School. A centre for artistic excellence, the development houses a stunning suite of performance and rehearsal rooms for music, dance and drama; classrooms, storerooms and offices; and enhanced art and design and technology facilities.
