Award winning table defies gravity

The award winning table that defies gravity
A bespoke hand crafted table named “Acer” designed & made by furniture designer, Sean Feeney, took over 200 hours to create and seemingly defies gravity.
Recently awarded the prestigious Bespoke Guild Mark, it is considered to represent the epitome of quality British contemporary design.
It is made from Warwickshire Sycamore: a luminous light wood that is traditionally used to make musical instruments such as violins and cellos, which radiates light and enhances the bold design. The attention to detail and function includes feet made from Perry pear wood, imported from Switzerland and loved for its close grained consistency, making it hard, durable and easy to maintain. There are only two Acer tables in existence. The design was originally commissioned by a client and made in Walnut to compliment and link two 18th Century antiques that were to be placed either side in a period home.
Those who love beautiful furniture but don’t care for antiques can have the best of both worlds by commissioning their very own custom furniture. This is not only an opportunity to leave your mark on tomorrow, but to express yourself, your personality, taste and style through design.
Designer made hand crafted furniture has become a collectable, functional art form in its own right.
Sean comments “Individuals who have become disillusioned with today’s mass-produced furniture choose the bespoke alternative that offers fine furniture which, though contemporary in appearance, never dates, and while delicate in design, will last indefinitely”. With private clients and collectors worldwide, he now holds seven prestigious Bespoke Guild Marks. Recipients of a Guild Mark can justifiably claim to be one of the best furniture craftsmen in Britain.

Sean believes the design process is one of intimate collaboration between the furniture maker and his client, developing ideas and exploring materials and finishes. Many hours are spent in discussion with the client refining concepts, getting to know the client’s particular requirements and tastes, and gaining an understanding of the context of their home. Only once every smallest detail has been considered, and the client feels that the design is a true expression of their ideas, will work commence on the piece itself. Sean comments, “I expect the finished product to exceed their expectations and my imagination… as well as impress their friends.”

Sean occasionally displays his work at exhibitions and open days at his workshop in Preston On Stour in the heart of rural Warwickshire. He has exhibited at a number of prestigious events. In 2008 his work was exhibited at the House of Commons in the first exhibition in the Palace of Westminster’s history to feature the work of British furniture designers /makers.
