King Henry VIII extends their global reach

King Henry VIII School in Coventry has enjoyed considerable success in extending their global reach and widening their community.

The impressive skills of Year 10 student Anant Patel have won him a place in the Pokemon Video Game World Championships taking place in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Anant qualified in London, competing in the Senior division and took home a trophy and a Nintendo 3DS.  He has been playing for just over a year and will be taking on qualifiers from Turkey, Spain, America, Japan, Korea and Canada.

When BMW were making their latest promotional video, they signed up Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington and King Henry VIII School! Scenes of Rebecca’s Olympic success were added to footage shot in our own swimming pool to produce a short film.

Clara Harris, Year 9, played the flute as part of the National Children’s Orchestra for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.   700 guests joined The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales for lunch at Westminster Hall where the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain performed a programme of music.

Harrison McCartney of Year 9 had an amazing run at the recent Interland Orienteering Championships. Not only did he come first, but he won his course by over 7 minutes - easily the biggest win of the event. Interland is an annual international event between England, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and France.

Nikhil Koria, Year 8, won first prize in the Year 7 - 9 category in the 24th annual Microbiology in Schools competion. This is a national competition with Nikhil competing against hundreds of other students from all over the country. Nikhil was successful with his illustrated news article for a healthy living magazine which aimed to improve the understanding of the contribution of microbes to healthy living. He also promoted the importnace of healthy eating habits in the year of the London Olympics.

Henry’s Sports Centre will be running a Summer programme of activities for children from all schools in Year 3 to Year 9 throughout the Summer until Friday 31st August.
